Godfrey Phillips India Limited

With a turnover of some US$460 million, Godfrey Phillips India is the second largest cigarette manufacturer in the country. When setting up its new factory in Mumbai for production of the famous Marlboro cigarette in collaboration with Philip Morris International, the company wanted to ensure selection of the right flooring solution.

Overturning intense competition from other flooring providers, specialist flooring company Flowcrete India secured the prestigious project based on strong references at Hindustan Unilever and British Tobacco where its resin flooring installations were delivering superior performance.

Following preparation of the area using shot-blasting, Flowcrete's semi-dry cementitious K-screed was installed at 50mm thickness to provide a sound, flat footing for the selected floor finish. The reduced water content of the K-screed eliminates the cracking and debonding that can occur with conventional sand/cement screeds and the quick drying times enable project schedules to be expedited.

Flowcrete's polyurethane concrete system Flowfresh was then installed in both the Secondary Manufacturing and Cut Tobacco Storage areas, totalling some 7,000 sq metres. The seamless system provides a hard-wearing, abrasion resistant, anti-slip surface that is easy to clean. The active antimicrobial agent contained in the Flowfresh formulation also provides protection against the buildup of bacteria, promoting a hygienic environment
