Spanning the first nine levels of the building, the car-park provides space for up to 1,000 vehicles. After evaluation of various coating systems, Flowcrete's polyurethane Deckshield system was chosen on account of its superior performance characteristics and a long list of international project references. Deckshield's hard-wearing, waterproof, crack-bridging properties have been proven in some of the harshest conditions around the world and it is one of the only systems of its kind to be certified to the stringent American Standards Testing specification ASTM C957. Another key attraction for the client was the light-reflective properties of Deckshield which create a brighter ambience and help reduce electricity consumption, delivering significant cost savings.
Available in various formulations for use on exposed deck areas, intermediate decks and ramps, Deckshield comes in a range of colours enabling clear and safe demarcation of car-park zones.
To provide a sound substrate, Flowcrete's proprietary K-Screed was installed first followed by the installation of some 35,000 square metres of the Deckshield. With added strength and durability, achieved due to its reduced water content, K-Screed eliminates the cracking, curling and debonding that often occurs with conventional sand/cement screeds.
